Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery available in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It launched in 1996 and has since produced some of the largest lottery jackpots in American history.

Each ticket costs $2. Players can also add the optional Megaplier for an extra $1, which multiplies certain non-jackpot prizes. Drawings are held twice a week—Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
